Columbus Digital Local TV Channel Information
Well,... back to the 1950ies we go...the outside/outdoor high gain TV antenna is going to make a serious come back, and for those who want the best ever in television. Just think of watching network programing not in the present 230 lines of resolution, but an amazing 720 plus lines.....its almost like a 35 mm slide show....Of course the full HDTV at 1080 lines will only be found in DBS satellite reception and not on your 480 line DVD players.
At present 9/22/2005 most of the stations are in a "Testing Mode", meaning that they are transmitting a High Definition signal but with very low power and with their transmitting antenna very low to the ground. So reception at best can be "IFFY"........however with the proper high gain antenna's you may have sucess. I have many Dual Antenna installs that are working very well ....but again with the proper equipment!!
The FCC has given the local stations until late 2006 to get there HD systems up and running at full strength.
Here are some of my spot measurements with a standard Radio Shack style ($69.00) TV antenna's, measured from the Harris County line on US 27. Remember a reading of "0" on the meter will give you a good picture but a minus reading will be poor and anything below -12 is unwatchable because the HD decoder will not hold the signal, and you'll have a black or pixel screen.

Setting up a digital television antenna is no easy task....your either on the station or not on the station....a mis-adjusted antenna is not going to give you snow but its going to have pixel problems, leading to a blocky looking picture, we actually have a digital testing meter that cost a few thousand$$$$$ used just to sync a digital air antenna....
We in the Columbus area have additional problems....our stations which must be "bore-sited" with the antenna, are spread all over the area, and so we may have to have an antenna rotator to swing the antenna from one station to another. But here at NUVIEW we have devised a High Gain set of Twin mono-bander antennae with frequency marked amplifiers that will keep the need to swing the antenna down to a minimum.
